This is all about being safe from the viruses.. that you normally face due to pendrive or other things...
If u don't hav any antivirus ...NO PROBLEM
1) As soon as you insert any external devices, like Pendrives and other USB's check if there are any suspicious elements attached.. before opening it. 2) Yes your latest antivirus may not be able to find all those elements . 3) Best way to do this is to switch to command prompt ( Start->Run>cmd) 4) change the directory to the respective drive ( e.g- cd g: ) 5) list the hidden files " G:\ dir/ah " 6) There you may find all the suspicious elements if u have any ... ( remember the common files like " autorun.inf" "desktop.ini" , are always misunderstood as simple files) 7) The next important step is changing the attributes " G:\ attrib -h -r -s <filename>" 8) After that you may just use the DEL comand or RENAME or EDIT... 9) If you have completed these steps ... then simply remove the drive and reinsert it....
Now you are safe from viruses ...
NOTE: This step may be also useful .. if you find a virus in your computer and .. you cannot delete it or any of your antivirus is unable to treat it....
I'm using the same techniques ..and its been like a long time ... since i've faced any viruses ..

i also recomend spyware terminator. It's free, safe, and has a great free adware, spyware, and virus scan plus realtime protection. It has also has almost daily updates to keep you safe! you can find it on download.com but if you don't want to downlaod you can do this free online scan right now. It was paid for by public schools (mine uses it) housecall.trendmicro.com
